Basic Scouter Training

Most of your basic scouter trainings can be done on-line at www.myscouting.org, but many prefer live in-person sessions.

All registered adults MUST be Youth Protection Trained in their unit area.  This is required to be turned in with all new applications.  Go to www.myscouting.org sign-up for an account ( if you do not have one ). Then take the appropriate test.  Print out the Completion Certificate and turn it in with the Adult Registration Form.  A membership number will be assigned after your application has been submitted to council. Youth Protection Training must be completed every two years (or one year from going to a Jamboree) to remain current.

Any Adults that does not have a current Youth Protection by Re-charter will not be allowed to continue until the training is brought up to date.

What makes a Trained Leader?

Boy Scouts America desires to see 100% of all direct-contact leaders trained. In the near future it will be a requirement for re-registration.

To be fully trained with the basic skills to be successful in your position and to earn the Trained Leader emblem*, a new leader must complete basic training in the following order.

Youth Protection Training: New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training before submitting an application for registration.

Fast Start Training for their volunteer position, click on the appropriate link below:

Cub Scout Leaders          Boy Scout Leaders          Venturing Advisors

Leader Position-Specific Training: Fully trained leaders changing leadership roles should take the Leader Position-Specific Training for their new position. * In addition, Boy Scout leaders must complete Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) Training through their local council.

Here is the link to visit the Baltimore Area Council training page. Here you can see if other district training schedules will help meet your training needs.

For Cubs Scouts all of this training may be completed on-line. www.myscouting.org

For Boys Scouts all but the Scoutmaster Leader Specific training (S11) and the IOLS (S24) can be done on-line.
