The Baltimore Area Council is currently seeking qualified candidates for the following positions.



The Baltimore Area Council is looking to hire a second full time ranger to serve at Broad Creek Scout Reservation.


  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to relate well with people and to have a friendly and helpful attitude toward the Scouting family and the public.
  • Ability to effectively enforce established council policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform a variety of basic maintenance skills, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry, with specialized capability in at least one technical skill. Has experience in using hand tools.
  • Personal requirements:
    • Must be 21 years of age or older.
    • Physically and mentally fit.
    • Personal habits that reflect Scouting's best interests.
    • Financial and personal integrity.
    • Some college education is beneficial, particularly when the ranger is assigned program-related functions.
  • Willing to accept a flexible work schedule that often includes weekends and holidays.
  • Willing to subscribe to and live by the basic tenets embodied in the Scout Oath and Law and become a member of the Boy Scouts of America.

Specific Duties:

  • Protection and control of property and people
    • Supervise all use of the property. Patrol the property as necessary for trespass, vandalism, and fire.
    • Ensure a safe and healthy camp environment and know emergency procedures.
  • Business responsibilities:
    • Comply with estabilished council business procedures, including accounting of petty cash and other funds.
    • Submit regular reports and maintain essential business records.
  • Operation of physical facilities and property
    • Operate and keep all physical property and equipment, including tractors and mowers, in safe operatiing conditon.
    • Be particularly alert to conditions that affect health, safety, asanitation, and good housekeeping practices.
    • Establish work schedules for routine maintenance and operational procedures, and order necessary supplies.
    • Cooperate closely with camp director or campmaster corps to effectively resolve questions of facility operation such as checking groups in and out, issuing equipment, submitting records and reports of each occupancy, and related matters.
  • Maintenance of physical facilities and property
    • Make regular inspectiosn to determine essential repairs and corrective action required.
    • Submit estimates of time and materials when necessary and perform general repairs as authorized.
    • Maintain a record of all maintenance performed.
  • Relationships
    • Maintain harmonious relationships with local officials and government services, adjoining landowners, and neighboring communities.
    • Represent the council in contacts with visitors, Scouters, and Scouts.
    • Maintain good housekeeping practices surrounding the ranger's residence and throughout the camp property.
    • Maintain a harmonious relationship with the camp director, program director, and other seasonal staff.
  • Program
    • Assist with council program and activities as requested.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Time Commitment
    • This position is full time, 40 hours per week.
    • You are expected to be availilbe on all weekends except as approved by supervisor after a responsible alternate is appointed.
  • Compensation
    • Salary will be offered based on experience and qualifications.
    • Other compensation will include:

The District Executive selected will:

  • Work with a volunteer board of directors and other community and business leaders to identify, recruit, train, guide, and inspire them to become involved in youth programs.
  • Achieve progress towards specific goals and objectives which include: program development through collaborative relationships, volunteer recruitment and training, fundraising, membership recruitment and retention.
  • Be responsible for extending programs to religious, civic, fraternal, educational, and other community-based organizations through volunteers.
  • Secure adequate financial support for programs in assigned area. Achieve net income and participation objectives for assigned camps and activities.
  • Recruit leadership for finance campaign efforts to meet the financial needs of the organization.
  • Ensure that all program sites are served through volunteers, regular leader meetings, training events and activities.
  • Collaborate with adult volunteers and oversee achievement of training for their respective role.
  • Be a good role model and recognize the importance of working relationships with other professionals and volunteers. The executive must have communication skills and can explain the program's goals and objectives to the public.
  • Provide quality service through timely communication, regular meetings, training events and activities.
  • Have a willingness and ability to devote long and irregular hours to achieve council and district objectives.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong marketing, fund-raising and program development background is highly desired.
  • Non-profit, fundraising or sales experience is a plus.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences. Excellent people skills, enthusiastic, punctual, responsible and creative.
  • Self-motivated individual with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills in management, budgeting, and planning.
  • Committed to personal and professional productivity, while maintaining high ethical and professional working standards.


  • Must be willing to accept and meet the Boy Scout of America's leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment).
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Ability to work varied hours when necessary, evening activities and weekend work is frequently required to achieve positive objectives.
  • Ability to travel for training at least once a year for one to two weeks.
  • A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.

Looking for a Part-Time Associate at the Dorsey Road Scout Shop!! (Hanover, MD)

The Dorsey Road Scout Shop, Boy Scouts of America has an outstanding opportunity for a motivated Sales Associate in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.

Applicants must be energetic, enthusiastic, and customer service oriented! Tasks include providing outstanding customer service in store and on the phone as well as stocking the sales floor, processing register transactions, and daily housekeeping. Being reliable, hardworking, and flexible are key qualities for this position.

- Knowledge of the Boy Scouts of America program is helpful, but not required.
- The ability to speak Spanish/English is a plus, but not required.

Job Overview:
Contributes to the successful daily operation of the Scout Shop by transacting sales, accurate and on-time ADI timecard records, receiving orders, stocking shelves, and maintain a clean customer friendly environment.

The individual in this position will:
Provide excellent customer service in the store and on the phone.
Process customer orders through the POS system.
Maintain a stocked, organized, and clean store.
Open and close the store as directed by management using the prescribed policies and procedures.
Safeguard BSA monies and merchandise.

Qualifications/ Experience: The qualified candidate must have:

Prefer retail experience

The Baltimore Scout Shop is looking for a Part time sales associate between 9-15 hours weekly with more hours maybe given during peak months. The candidate should have some retail experience and more importantly loves to work with customers. Must be available Mon-Fri. and some Saturdays when needed.
