We will be offering 5 merit badge classes: Aviation, Farm Mechanics, Space Exploration, Electronics, or Digital Technology

  • Scouts may only register for 1 class and all classes will run from 8:30am - 3:00pm.
  • The cost is $20 and this covers supplies, lunch and a patch.
  • All scouts must be in Class A uniform and bring a signed blue card.
  • Scouts taking Digital Technology need a laptop, Current Cyber Chip, and teen internet use contract.

Prerequisits: Some merit badges have prerequisits shown below that MUST be completed ahead of time.  If the prerequisites are not completed, you will not leave with a signed off blue card.

Prerequisites:

  • Farm Mechanics - 10 scouts, #7 written.
  • Space Ex. – 8 scouts; prerequisites 2, 5b, 5c and 7.  Will need several parents to drive scouts to the Ag Center in the afternoon and scouts will be picked up at the Ag Center.
  • Electronics – 10 scouts;  prereqs are 4c (DO NOT BUILD) and 6 both should be written and ready to discuss.
  • Digital Tech – 12 scouts;  1 – bring cyber chip with you or signed letter from SM,#5b,#5c,#6,#8; Please bring presentation on laptop, USB drive, or printed screenshots.
  • Aviation – 20 scouts – Below are the details for the aviation class.

We need a parent volunteer for each class so that we are two deep.  If you can volunteer please sign up as an adult volunteer.

Please read the special information for the Aviation merit badge below.

Orientation Flights:

Weather permitting, scouts will be taking introductory flights in small aircraft.  The flight will be provided by the Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EAA) Young Eagles program.  The flights are free of charge.  If you or your scout have reservations about flying in a small plane, please DO NOT register for the Aviation Merit Badge.  Seats are limited and there are a lot of scouts that want to have access to these flights.

Permission and Waivers:

Two separate waiver forms are required for participation in the orientation flights.  First, the BSA activity waiver may be obtained here (http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/19-673.pdf).  Please download this form and return it completed to bsacarrollstem@gmail.comno later than October 25.  Second, an EAA Young Eagles Application and Waiver form will need to be completed the morning of the event.  A parent or legal guardian must be present in the morning to complete this form.

Attire:

Scouts need to be in Class A uniform and come dressed for the weather.  We will be going out on the airport grounds, rain or shine.

Closed toed shoes are required.  Hiking boots are ok, but not recommended as they limit mobility of the ankles.  Comfortable shoes such as sneakers are ideal.  Sneakers may look goofy with a Scout uniform, but we want the best possible experience for the scouts.

Arrival:

Scouts need to arrive at the Carroll County Airport between 8:00am and 8:30am.  We will begin to cover safety promptly at 8:30.

Pre-requisites:

#5.  Find out about three career opportunities in aviation. Pick one and find out the education, training, and experience required for this profession. Discuss this with your counselor, and explain why this profession might interest you. (Please research a profession and come prepared to discuss.)

Volunteers:

We need 3 adults to stay for morning potion at the airport.  These volunteers will be with the scout groups to ensure 2-deep coverage as we move around the airport.

Parent Observation:

There is limited space in the room where the classroom portion will be held.  Parents that which to stay for the entire day may have to stand.
