BROWNSEA ESSENTIALS TRAINING This is a "new" training, which will include virtual and in-person sessions, but no overnight camping or group cooking. Thursday, May 6, 2021 7-9pm - Virtual and Saturday, May 8, 2021 - In-Person course will take place at Camp Saffran Check in begins at 7:45am Training runs from 8:45am - 5:00pm On Saturday, Scouts should bring a day pack with their lunch, water and the 10 Scout Essentials, as well as a light folding chair. They should dress appropriately for the weather that day. Brownsea Essentials is directed toward younger Scouts (12-15 years old), but anyone can register. All Scouts who attend must have earned at least the rank of Second Class. On training day, Scouts will work in patrols to learn problem solving, outdoor leadership skills, and the basics of Scoutcraft. They will participate in various games & exercises that foster learning by doing and the development of leadership in the patrol setting In order to provide Scouts an exciting and safe training experience, a COVID mitigation plan will be in effect for the in-person portion of the course. (inquire about the discount code from the Course Director) | | BROWNSEA YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING Weekend Dates: Thurs, Oct 14 - Sun, Oct 17, 2021 Camp Oest, Broad Creek Check in begins Thursday evening at 5pm and closing ceremonies will take place mid-day Sunday afternoon. Brownsea prepares Scouts to lead others by learning to lead themselves. It is designed to enhance and expand on training in leadership and Scoutcraft provided by the troop itself and paves the way for more advanced leadership courses, including National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). The course stresses Scouting values, outdoor skills, and basic leadership principles. At Brownsea, Scouts learn to work in Patrols that camp, cook, and solve problems together for three days and nights. They take part in learning discussions and ceremonies that develop Scout skills and leadership traits, as well as a number of Patrol activities that offer opportunities for hands-on learning and fun. All Scouts who attend must have at least earned the rank of Second Class. If paid by June 1st, the early registration fee will be $100.
