Scouts with Disabilities and Special Needs

Since its founding, the Boy Scouts of America has served youth members with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. Scouting is uniquely positioned among youth programs to meet the needs of children with various disabilities by providing diverse programs and social experiences.

The Baltimore Area Council is one of the leading Boy Scout councils in the country that serves Scouts with disabilities.  Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation has its own dedicated program facilities for youth with special needs to experience camp and the outdoors.

“As the Baltimore Area Council Committee Chair of the Committee on Youth with Disabilities and Special Needs and a volunteer, our volunteers, with families and Council staff, have one of the premier Special Needs Scouting programs in the United States.  Special Needs Scouting in our Council has been recognized by the National BSA with various awards for the work that has been accomplished in serving youth in our area.  The Committee on Youth with Disabilities and Special Needs, works to maintain and expand awareness along with advocating when called for."
