NOTE: Extensions not associated with COVID-19 restrictions do not follow this process.

BSA Guide to Advancement Extension of the Age Requirement (GTA provides the five tests to be considered when reviewing extension requests.

Extensions to Council Approved COVID-19 Extensions for Eagle, Summit, and Quartermaster Age Requirement

Councils may grant an additional extension of up to 3 months upon receiving another request. Councils should remind Scouts/Venturers/Sea Scouts receiving extensions who need the time to complete their Eagle/Summit/Quartermaster Service Projects to consider making changes to the Projects, including possibly changing Projects, so they can be completed by the new deadline.

In order for the Scouts to be granted the second extension, they are going to need to submit a new request which includes the following 2 items:

  • New request for time which must address these three items
    • How much time they are requesting
    • What they still need to complete
    • Rationale for the amount of time they are requesting
    • Why they think they can complete the requirements in the time being requested. Note:  This is where they would address potential changes to projects in order to complete the project within the time requested.
  • An updated advancement report which reflects advancement requirements (merit badges/project) completed since the last request.

Requests are to be submitted to the district's Advancement Chair, Council Advancement Chair, and Professional Advisor for the BAC Advancement Committee.
