Welcome to the 4Rivers District

We serve over 90 Packs, Troops, Ships, and Crews in Northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland, bounded by 4 Rivers: the Severn, the Magothy, the Patapsco, and the Patuxent.  We are dedicated to supporting our units with programs designed for fun and advancement opportunities, training offered at Roundtables and leadership specific courses, and service through the Commissioner Corps.

The Scout Oath and Law are the foundation of our programs which build character, develop leadership skills, and train youth in the responsibilities of citizenship and service.

4R is announcing a short film contest for current Webelos and Boy Scouts to help jump start our Press Corps! A side benefit is that Scouts may use this work on their Webelos Movie Maker Activity Pin and Boy Scouts may be interested in pursuing the Movie Making merit badge!

From National Council, BSA:

As one of America’s largest youth-serving organizations, the Boy Scouts of America continues to work to bring the benefits of our programs to as many children, families and communities as possible.

While we offer a number of programs that serve all youth, Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting are specifically designed to meet the needs of boys. For more than 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America, along with schools, youth sports and other youth organizations, have ultimately deferred to the information on an individual’s birth certificate to determine eligibility for our single-gender programs. However, that approach is no longer sufficient as communities and state laws are interpreting gender identity differently, and these laws vary widely from state to state.

Starting today, we will accept and register youth in the Cub and Boy Scout programs based on the gender identity indicated on the application.  Our organization’s local councils will help find units that can provide for the best interest of the child.

The BSA is committed to identifying program options that will help us truly serve the whole family, and this is an area that we will continue to thoughtfully evaluate to bring the benefits of Scouting to the greatest number of youth possible – all while remaining true to our core values, outlined in the Scout Oath and Law.

The Baltimore Area Council Recognition Dinner will occur on 27 April (a Thursday) at Waters Edge Events Center in Harford County. This venue has plenty of parking, an amazing view and a great menu.  These will be significant improvements over last year’s event.  Here is a link to their website http://watersedgeevents.com/. Ticket cost will be the same as last year, $75. However the early bird discount will only be $15 this year instead of $20, through March 20th. Final registration will close on April 14th.  Buffet menu will include roast top round of beef, chicken scampi, vegetables, salad, cheese, potatoes, rolls, and dessert.

Four Rivers District has collected food for local food banks and pantries as part of the Scouting for Food civic service project for many years.  Scouting for Food has grown into the Boy Scouts of America's largest single-day community food drive.  Over the years, the campaign has collected 45 million pounds of food donations.

4R Bag Distribution Day: On March 4, 2017 (or during the week thereafter), Scouts will deliver plastic bags to residences all over the area.  During the week, community residents will "thoughtfully give," filling their bags with nutritious canned goods and non-perishable items.

4R Bag Collection Day: On March 11, 2017 the Scouts will retrieve the filled bags from residents and take them to local food banks and pantries, where volunteers will box the donations. Four Rivers District will have a collection point at the J.J. Haines warehouse at 6950 Aviation Blvd., Glen Burnie, 21061 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. If you drop off at another location, please remember to record how much you collected and get that information to Chris Barth at startrek1500@gmail.com.
