10 ITEMS TO SHARE WITH SCOUTS & PARENTS
1. The three Eagle Scout brothers and their company, Image Engineering, are building the BSA 100th Anniversary History component of the Saturday evening show. Image Engineering are the same folks who provide the pyrotechnics to the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Capitals, the 100th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge and more. Wow!!! 2. Please spread the word to Eagle Scouts in your unit...the Saturday afternoon Eagle Scout Reception will especially recognize all new Eagle Scouts! More to come about a very special Eagle Scout guest from Camporee Chair Vic Bernson. 3. Don't Make The Risk Management Committee Mad! Tour Permits and Unit Rosters...are mandatory and must be presented to a member of the Camporee Registration Committee upon arrival. "No exceptions", says the Risk Management Chair Charlie Skinner and committee. 4. Think "low impact" camping. Think "pack it in, pack it out". Finally, think "camping Jamboree style". Our Logistics Committee under the leadership of Lyle Aaby expects to make Camporee camping assignments in mid to late summer. The key is to educate your Scouts and leaders to plan ahead to pack smart. 5. The Camporee Helps Build Local Scouting back home! We think your Institution Head, local Principal, School Superintendent and Mayor are VIPs, do you? Kindly email Jim Milham JMilham@baltimorebsa.org if we may extend the Official Camporee VIP Invitation to visit us and you on Saturday, October 2nd. Of course, you are welcome to follow-up as you see fit. VIP Committee Chair Barry Williams and the VIP Committee will help your guests feel like a Scouting family whether they can stay an hour or stay the entire day. 6. Meet the Founder of Scouting Lord Baden Powell! Yes, your Scouts can personally meet and greet BP himself aka Distinguished Eagle Scout Harold A. Yocum of Edmond, Oklahoma at the Camporee. What a treat for your Scouts on the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. 7. Check out the Baltimore Area Council Website early and often: - Merit Badge Prerequisites (to be posted soon)
- Various and Select Competitions Rules
- Official Celebration Service Project information
8. A word or two about "adults" and "lines"...while we always sincerely appreciate the enthusiasm of our adults attending very special events like this, youth are obviously the priority in Scouting. Adults should not be in lines where Scouts are waiting. Period. Please help out here. Lines are inevitable...but lines will not be everywhere. So go for the clear. 9. Carpoolers especially congratulated...when you have 5,000+ Scouts and leaders at a Scouting event there are going to be more than several vehicles. Please work with your Unit Committee and parents to carpool to your very best! And thank you for your consideration here!!! More to come. 10. Hip, Hip, Hooray for our Camporee Honorary Co-Chairs and our 100th Anniversary Chairs...please thank 'em when you see 'em...and tell your Scouts about these great guys! A big Baltimore Area Scouting hip, hip hooray for ... - Brigadier General James Adkins, Maryland National Guard, Honorary Co-Chair
- Baltimore City Police Commissioner Fred Bealefeld, Honorary Co-Chair
- Paul Madden, BSA 100th Anniversary Chair
- Vic Bernson, Star Spangled Celebration Camporee Chair
- Gay Vitske, Superintendent, Ft. McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine
