Youth ProtectionYouth Protection On-Line Training How does the BSA prevent child abuse in Scouting? The Boy Scouts of America has adopted a number of policies aimed at eliminating opportunities for abuse within the Scouting program. These policies focus on leadership selection and on placing barriers to abuse within the program.
The BSA has developed an online version of their Youth Protection Training course to help parents and leaders better understand BSA’s policy and procedures for protecting our youth. There are two ways to take this training. There is a face-to-face version which is facilitated by someone in your District and there is an online version which makes it easier for volunteers to renew their certification every two years as specified by the BSA. If you are interested in taking the facilitated version, contact your District leadership or check your District webpage for information on the next Youth Protection training opportunity. If you want to take the online version, please follow the link below and remember to follow the directions to receive credit for your training. You must be a registered adult leader with the Boy Scouts of America in order to receive a training card for this training, and you will need the member number found on the bottom of your BSA membership card. At the completion of your training, you will receive an e-mail with your new Youth Protection Training card and the council will receive a report that you completed this training.
Effective June 1, 2010 Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered volunteers, regardless of their position. New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training before submitting an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins. Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
