Hopkins District

Cub Scout Day Camp 2009

Dear Scoutmaster:

Below, Please find several Youth Crew packets to volunteer at the Hopkins District Day Camp. The theme for this year is Cubs in Space and will be held at Clifton Park. Your Scouts will have the opportunity to volunteer at camp from June 22nd 26th, 2009. The Youth Crew program gives Boy Scouts leadership opportunities which differ from those they may experience in their troops.

With changes in the past years to National Accreditation Standards, we are able to use all Boy Scouts as Youth Crew with a Station. Youth Crew will only be assigned to a den at the request of a Squad Leader and only if we have enough youth to staff the stations. The Youth Crew Chief will place the boys based on their preference on the application combined with his assessment of the boys scouting experience and ability to handle the responsibilities of assisting at a Station.

SCOUTMASTERS: THE YOUTH CREW CHIEF MAY CONTACT YOU TO DISCUSS SOME OF YOUR SCOUTS TO ASSIST IN THE DETERMINATION IN THEIR PLACEMENT.

Time is of the essence with the information enclosed in this packet. We are limiting our youth crew size to a maximum of 10 volunteers.

To register, a Scout needs to complete the enclosed Youth Crew Application, a Medical Form, and the Hopkins District Family Tally Sheet. If the Scout has a sibling or adult that will also be assisting at the Day Camp, please instruct them to complete the tally sheet pertaining to the family and submit ONE check made payable to BSA/BAC. We ask that all youth crew applications be received by May XX. No applications will be accepted after this date.

Applications are not to be sent to the council office. Please advise interested parties to send completed applications in order to expedite registration for your Scout. As mentioned above, ONE check should be submitted attached to the Family Tally Sheet. The Baltimore Area Council is requiring us to submit all checks with this form. Including the Family Tally Sheet, attach forms in the following order:

Family Tally Sheet (totaled with ONE check attached)

Youth Crew Application Form (with completed Medical Form)

All forms and fees (if not submitted with Cub Scout applications) should be sent to:

Youth Crew Information Sheet

First of all, thank you in advance for assisting us with our Day Camp. We will be providing approximately 50 Cub Scouts with a week of Day Camp experience this summer. Hopefully, you may use the volunteer time towards advancement in your Scout rank, but, if not, the volunteer time can count towards graduation requirements for volunteering. We will send out letters after camp detailing your volunteer hours. (Please provide any additional paperwork for us to complete if the letter on letterhead will not suffice.)

With changes to our National Accreditation Standards, we are able to use all Boy Scouts both as a member of our Youth Crew with a Den or as a member of our Station Crew at a Station. We will be assigning youth crew to stations first. We will only assign youth crew to a squad at the request of a squad leader. The Youth Crew Chief will place the youth based on their preference on the application combined with his assessment of their scouting experience and ability to handle the responsibilities of assisting at a Station.

Girls age 14 and older may also register as a member of our Youth Crew and will be assigned to assist at one of our Day Camp stations. Girls under 14 and Boys under 14 not registered as a Boy Scout are not able to be members of our Youth Crew.
