Question: I am a scout and have started working on requirements for a merit badge but don't have a counselor yet.  What should I do?

Answer:   A few merit badges have certain restrictions, but otherwise any registered Scout, or qualified Venturer or Sea Scout, may work on any of them at any time. Before beginning to work with a merit badge counselor, however, the Scout is to have a discussion with the unit leader.  A counselor does not have to give you credit for work you have done prior to working with them.

Question:  Can I hand out the list of Merit Badge Counselors to my Scouts?

Answer:  This list is for unit leadership to use to identify Merit Badge Counselors for certain badges.  This list should not be freely floating around the unit.  Remember this list may have names addresses and phone numbers that should not be out for the public to see.
